Latchkey/Childcare

What is Latchkey?

Latchkey is a before and after school, school-aged child care program designed to provide quality care and program activities for children in grades K-5.  The program provides educational, recreational, and social activities to promote learning and development with a minimum of formal structure.  This is offered during the In-Person and Hybrid Learning Models only.

What does Latch Key Offer?

At Latchkey children may choose quiet activities such as playing a variety of board games, reading, simple art projects and/or sports activities and gross motor activities, including basketball, soccer, parachute activities, tag, jump rope, and many more. Staff will also work with children on reading and homework whenever possible.

ALL balances MUST be paid in full prior to Fall enrollment.

What is Childcare?

Childcare for Critical Tier 1 workers will be provided during the Hybrid Learning Model distant learning days and during the Distance Learning Model for district enrolled students, 4-12 years of age, as required by MDE at no cost. (This childcare is intended for extreme circumstances in which no parent or guardian is at home, due to employment as a critical worker. If both parents live at home, BOTH parents must be critical Tier 1 workers to receive free care.)  Proof of employment is required in the form of an ID badge, a letter from employer, or a copy of a pay stub.  If space is available, childcare for all other families will be offered for a fee.  Childcare will be available 7:00 a.m.- 2:45 p.m. located at Thief River Falls Evangelical Free Church.  Latchkey is available for a fee for after school care from 2:45 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. but a separate application must be submitted.
